Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academy at JCU

Marcus Lane serves as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academy at JCU and is responsible for the delivery of teaching programs and research activities across JCU's campuses in Townsville, Cairns, Singapore and Brisbane.

Educated at Griffith University and the University of Queensland, Marcus has extensive academic and academic leadership experience. An environmental scientist and geographer by training, his areas of enduring academic interest include environmental policy and management, and Indigenous rights. Marcus maintains a keen interest in public policy in a number of areas, including: environmental policy and governance across northern Australia and Melanesia, rural and regional economic development, and higher education.

Marcus previously served as the Founding Dean of the JCU College of Science and Engineering, and as Dean (Academic) of Arts, Education and Law at Griffith University. He was also the Foundation Chair of CSIRO’s Social and Economic Sciences Research Program.
